TEDS January Events

Hello friends!

As you know, I have a Scrap Your Stash event coming up that you are more than welcome to join and participate in. Coincidentally, it also coincides with another event I have happening over in my Try it Out group on Facebook (which, now that I think about it, I might have missed doing a FB Live this morning. Oops! There’s always some bumps getting back into routine after a holiday, right??)

Were you unaware that I’m hosting a Scrap Your Stash event later this month? Its scheduled to take place between January 21-28. Its a week long because a lot of my customers are having a hard time working around their sports and work schedules and I want this to be as inclusive (and successful) as possible! The goal of this event is to get you working with the items you already have on hand, and using up your ever expanding pile of scrap papers (and embellishments, ribbons, journaling cards, etc.) Play along with us! There is still room, because this event is happening online! You choose the day and time that works for you, and get some crafting done. When you’re done, take a picture of your completed project, and upload it to my business page for your chance to win some Close to My Heart swag from yours truly. I want to share, and I think this is a wonderful way to do it! To join, follow this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/2266068393718707/

What’s the Try It Out event that I mentioned? I’m focusing on using spray inks in my artwork (I’m still waiting on new product to arrive, so to kill time I’m using up my stash, and playing with things that I don’t often play with) and I’m challenging my groupies to play with it, too. Or, try it out, if they’ve never tried it before. The Facebook Live that I was (still am) going to do was to walk participants through how to put together the layout I shared with you the other day (find the blog post here). Then, try it out yourself! I’m posting additional artwork to the group event to further inspire the participants. The layout I’m going to share with you today is one of them!

In this layout, I used HS spray ink in Tea, which covers the criteria for the Try it Out event that I have planned (I’ll share the fine details soon), and it covers the criteria for my Scrap Your Stash event! Its pulling double duty, which is awesome. Its saving me more work- keep it simple, silly. Thats the best policy ever! (All the paper that’s used, except for the White Daisy card stock, is all scraps. The dark blue base is actually retired CTMH paper that I have a ton of!)

Oh, phew! I didn’t miss the Facebook Live that’s I’ve got planned! (Great memory, just short). That will be happening next Saturday, if you’d like to check it out. (That’s the 12th). If you’d like to participate in it, find the event here. Are you a member of my Try it Out group? Head to Facebook, and join here. I’d love to see you at both events, that would be so great!

January is Coming!

Are you ready for a new month and a new year?! It’s coming at us so quickly, isn’t it? Wowza, where has the year gone?

I’ve began reflecting on the new year, and making a business plan. I’ve missed blogging as much as I used to. It fell behind because I was focused on my CTMH workshops and adding more of them to my calendar. Things on that front has slowed way down- not sure why- but rather than beating a dead horse, I chose to continue moving forward by doing other things until the tides turn again. Such as blogging. Hopefully I can strike a happy balance when it does turn again.

So, having said that, I’m once again renewing my efforts to inspire you, share CTMH with you, and maybe forge a friendship with you. That would be ideal! If you’d like to join me, please follow along! You’re about to see me much more than you used to 😊

In January, a new catalog is coming out, and with said catalog, new products. Yay!!! All kinds of new is happening in January! I’ve had the privilege of playing with some of the new product ahead of time, and I’m excited to share it all with you, even if you already have seen some of it (check out previous posts to see more Something Fierce artwork).

First up is Something Fierce. It’s the featured paper collection in January. Did you know that every month at CTMH a new paper collection is highlighted? It makes workshop planning easy, and purchasing (if you adore what you made at your workshop). It also gives us a way to focus on one thing at a time so we don’t get overwhelmed by all the pretty new items at once! (Especially now, since each new catalog will have all new product- very little, if anything at all, will carry over).

You’ve already seen some of my artwork in previous posts, but I’ve got two more layouts to share with you. One layout used up some of the scraps I had leftover from the paper packet I was given at the launch event I went to on December 2. Paper can sure go a long ways if you use it the right way!

Cut your paper into 2×3 and 3×4 squares, and you’re set! Until now, I hadn’t used any of the images from the cut away paper that’s included in the paper packet. They worked well to embellish this double page spread. It’s so cute! I’ll probably never know the gender of this particular dinosaur, but since the papers are mostly pink and yellow, I’d like to think it’s a female lol!

The other layout I created used up a couple sheets of retired patterned paper and White daisy card stock. I also utilized journaling cards, which rarely happens!

My shadow obstructs the paper tearing that’s also featured in this layout. If you enlarge the image, and look really closely, you’ll see a tone on tone effect where I added strips of paper torn white daisy card stock. I think it adds to the wild nature of my theme. I focused on keeping the color palette neutral, so you’ll find lots of Nutmeg, Fern and touches of Glacier throughout- not to mention white daisy. Can never have too much of that 😊

I also utilized my cricut to cut the dinosaur and title. Happily, I have some images that fits this theme, which always makes crafting easier. Unlike the first spread, I added stamping to the far right journaling card for added dimension.

Next up, which I’ll share in the next day or so (we’re joining Whitecourt’s protest convoy tomorrow. We fully support our oil and gas industry! It’s our way of life 💕), is the gorgeous Magnolia frame kit, which is January’s national paper crafting Month sales promotion. I put mine together last week, and it’s stunning! I want more! You’re going to fall in love with it too. Promise!

Thanks for joining me. I hope to see you again soon!

So Blessed

I’m so excited to share with you something that I’ve been sitting on for a couple months. I’m honoured and tumult blessed to have had this opportunity, and I encourage all of you to get out there and share your artwork! You never know where it’ll take you!

I am the proud creator of this darling layout on the cover of Creative Scrapbooker magazine. The other three takes in the first few pages of the magazine are equally as darling. I’m certain it was a difficult decision to make. Wow!

I’m also blessed to have three other projects inside the magazine. The artwork in this issue is incredible! So much inspiration! Creative Scrapbooker knocked it out of the park. If you haven’t picked up your issue or received it in the mail yet, you’re in for a real treat. Go pick one up if you don’t have a subscription.

Have you ever been published? If not, I strongly encourage you to check out the publication call and submit one or two projects. If you feel as though your work isn’t good enough, I’d (kindly) tell you you’re wrong. Your artwork is good enough, and you never know who you’ll inspire. Before I started submitting my artwork, I felt the same too. Then, I figured I had nothing to lose, so I went for it. A few years later, I was given the opportunity to “try out” for the cover. You could one day have the same opportunity! Want to try? Head over to Creative Scrapbooker, and see what they’re looking for. (Just a hint- they love double page projects). 😉

I’m headed over there now…I hope to see your name in the magazines pages one day.

CTMH Smile Layout

Hello friends, this will be a quick post (again) because life is going to interrupt very shortly (again).

How often do you use journaling cards in your layouts, and why do you use them? Is it quick to create, easy to work with or another reason? Maybe it works best with a particular sketch you found.

I used journaling cards here simply for that reason- I figured it would work the best with the sketch I’d chosen as my inspiration. (It cane from Pinterest, by the way).

I also created my own journaling card using CTMH stamps and ink. I completed my layout with extra stickers from the Adventure Cut Above Kit I used here.

Silver & Gold Workshop

Hello friends. Forgive my absence yesterday, we had a last minute appointment in Edmonton. Today, I enjoyed the peace and quiet of being home alone. The weather is miserable, so it was a great day for introverting and scrapbooking.

I prepped for my Fall Card workshop, which is Friday, and then I created card samples for my upcoming Christmas workshop. Once that was done, I dove into starting my Christmas cards!

No, I’m not starting too early. I don’t have enough supplies to create them, so I’ll add more with Octobers order. Since it’ll take time, I won’t rush through making them 😊

Here, I’d love to show you what we’re making. I absolutely love them!

I followed the CTMH Creative Insider cutting guide to create the middle card and the card to the right. But, instead of strictly using the Pewter ink, I swapped it out for Bashful. I also based the card on the left on a card found within the Silver & Gold Workshop Your Way kit. It’s a bonus project, but loved it! That card was also tweaked just a teensy bit from the original.

I just ADORE Bashful paired with the gold shimmer trim and all new Pewter ink. It adds a touch of femininity and softness. And, I love the non-traditional Christmas colour scheme. Those patterns? Divine!

This workshop is taking place November 18, 2017. If you’re interested in attending, please rsvp by November 3, 2017.

If you love these cards but live too far away to attend my workshop, I have good news! As an alternative, I’ll create a cutting guide so you have the freedom to create at your own speed, in your own home. It’s yours FREE if you place an order with me (only for residents within the borders of Canada 🇨🇦).

If that’s you, please contact me. I’d love to help you get creative!

*Just a note, my cutting guide will be based on the cutting guides I used to create my samples, but it’ll reflect the changes I made to them for my own workshop.

CTMH School Year Layout

Good morning, friends.

I mixed products in the layout I’m sharing with you today. I wanted to use papers that were academic in nature, so broke out some of my Recollections patterned paper and went to town. The stamp set I used is CTMH and also school themed.

Products used:

-S1708 School Year Stamp of the month (retired)

-D1706 School Kids My Acrylix Stamp set

-Z2805 Black Exclusives Ink

– Sea Glass Exclusives Ink (retired)

-Z2854 Pomegranate Exclusives Ink

-Z2811 Chocolate Exclusives Ink

CTMH Gymnastics

Hello friends! I have something totally different to share with you today! It isn’t often I get to mix ‘work’ with ‘play’. I’m not sure which is which, but here I am, killing it for our gymnastics club!

I used CTMH Play Hard B1512 and Gymnastics B1304. These are both retired items, but I’m so glad I finally got the chance to use them on a project! It helps that I’m on the gymnastics board, too! See- stamping and creativity can be applied in many areas of our lives- not just card making and scrapbooking! What off the page or out of the norm project have you created using stamps or other media? What was the result?

I’m waiting on approval of this flyer from the rest of the board, but once its approved, I’m off to Staples to have it printed. Wish me luck!

CTMH Adventure Cut Above Kit

Hello friends, welcome to Thursday. How is your day treating you so far? I hope its a good one for you! Its survival mode day for me, meaning I headed out for a walk, got home and bawled my eyes out (this year has been so tough…grieving hasn’t terminated yet. Actually, it never will. But, I’ll eventually learn to deal with it.) Then I got up, purged my daughters’ bedrooms (throwing out two garbage bags full of trash. Yeah, I know. The best part? I only cleaned up their dressers and night stands. My children are like their father- they have to keep every.single.thing. I’m a purger. I always have been. I don’t get the need to keep everything! My kids cry when I suggest donating toys they don’t play with and clothes they never wear. My husband gets downright mad at me for trying to  sell things we rarely use and haven’t looked at in the 6 years we’ve lived in this house. The struggle is real, folks! Are you in the same predicament? How do you deal with it?

Now, I’m binging on food and sitting in front of my computer attempting to type out a blog post. I hadn’t intended to start out my blog post that way, but there it is. No point in hiding behind my emotions. Its part of being human. And, part of grieving I suppose, too.  (My children are going to be doing their own version of grieving when they get home from school and see what all I’ve thrown out.) I’m not sure I’m looking forward to it. I hope they don’t notice everything that’s gone.

I thought I’d share a layout I created using the new Adventure Cut Above Layout kit. You’ll find this fun kit in the new Annual Inspirations catalog. If you’ve never used this kit before, and have no idea what I’m talking about, you’re going to like what I have to share with you.

The idea behind this kit (and the card kits that come in the same line- Cut Above)- is ease of creating and simplicity. Images are included in the kit showing you what the traditional layouts and pocket style layouts could look like when you’re done creating. (I tend to follow what the pictures depict. I’ve always been a rule follower. When I bake, I need a recipe. When I scrapbook, I need a template to follow. If I don’t have it, I’m totally lost and draw a blank. I can’t move on until I’ve been given direction.) The card kits and layout kits are super simple to put together. All the materials you need to create either project is included in the kit. They’re also pre-cut so there’s no fussing and guessing what size icons and elements should be. They are also a breeze to assemble- the cards and layouts themselves will literally take you no longer than 10 minutes from start to finish. So, if you’re into speed scrapbooking, for any reason, this is the route to take!

All the kits come in different themes- there’s baby boy and baby girl ones, Adventure (as in travel), like the one I played with, and more. Head over to my website to have a look! Which is your favorite?

The best part about these kits?! They’re affordable AND there’s always odds and ends left over for other projects! How cool is that? Pick one of these bad boys up for just $19.00 CAD. (The card kits are typically $9.00 CAD, not including the cost of shipping).

Above is how the kit looks when it arrives on your doorstep. Below is how it could look after you’ve played with it some!

I like to combine a traditional layout with a pocket style layout when I play with these kits. The only struggle I have with the pocket style pages is that I have to fill the backside of the page protector with pictures of the same orientation as the front side (Side A). Often, the pictures that follow the first ones aren’t the same orientation! I don’t have a picture of it, but in this particular case, I got smart, and just filled the flip side (Side B) with journaling cards, and moved on to whatever I wanted to scrapbook next. It bothers me that I couldn’t utilize that space the way I wanted, but I’m relieved it isn’t wasted space. There’s my silver lining!

Thanks for joining me today! I’ll be back again soon to share a sneak of the Holiday Expressions catalog (which happily arrived on my doorstep yesterday) and a special project I’ve been working on!

CTMH Feel So Blessed

Hello friends! Happy hump day! It was a rainy day here in my neck of the woods, which made the day perfect for more scrapbooking! As promised, I would share projects featuring this months stamp of the month, Feel So Blessed, and I’m happy to report that I have a couple to share with you! I have three to share with you, as a matter of fact!

This last layout features an eclectic mixture of products from CTMH- I used the stamp of the month, journaling cards that I had left over from the Charlotte collection, and some of the paper accents came from the Adventure Cut Above layout kit. I absolutely love how this layout came together!

The middle layout features left over complements from Some Kinda Wonderful and the stamp of the month. I also layered my White Daisy card stock in front of the Smoothie card stock for a pretty (and simple) border statement.

Lastly, I used Recollections patterned paper (of which were scraps) along with CTMH card stock and Urban patterned paper to create this layout about my doofus Freddie. I coloured the feather image in using my Shin Han Touch Twin markers.

Which is your  favourite? I think there’s something special about all three layouts, but my favourite two needs to be the last two I shared. Its all the white space…it just speaks to me. This months’ stamp of the month speaks to me, too. Its wonderful to use for all those Thanksgiving layouts that will soon be gracing craft galleries and Facebook pages all over the internet. I’m also seeing it being used to decorate fall themed layouts and projects. I took a less festive approach to my use of this stamp set, but it just goes to show how versatile it really is!

Have you thought of any other ways you’d use it? Let me know in the comments below!
